Dogo Onsen train station

Thu, June 15, 2017, by Muza-chan

Iyotetsu was the first railway in Shikoku and the third private railway in Japan, and it currently operates train lines around Matsuyama and the city’s tram. Photographed here is the Dōgo Onsen station, a terminus station for one of the most important tourist attractions in the city, the famous hot spring public bath Dōgo Onsen.

The station building is a beautiful replica of the original station built here in 1911, a typical western-style building of the Meiji period. And in front of the station is a replica of the first locomotive imported to Shikoku from Germany, made by Krauss & Company, Munich. A replica of the original train, Botchan Ressha, is still running on the city’s tram lines.
