Not many Japanese castles were preserved together with their samurai residential area (buke yashiki), so the people from Matsue are justifiably proud of the Shiomi Nawate street, which features samurai residences preserved as they were during the Edo period. And the street is nicely "advertised" on the city's artistic manhole covers...
