Similar to ikebana and to the gravel raked patterns in the Zen gardens, bonseki is a fleeting art form. Miniature landscapes are skillfully drawn inside a lacquered black tray, with extreme finesse, using fine grains of sand and small pebbles. An artwork so fragile that a simple breeze could wipe it away...
