Andon, traditional Japanese lantern

Besides the well known stone and metal lanterns, most traditional lighting equipment in Japan was made on a bamboo frame covered with washi Japanese paper.

For interior, the most popular was the andon, a prism-shaped lantern like this one, photographed at an exposition inside a traditional house n Shiroishi.
