Asagao, Morning Glory

Ever since the Edo period Asagao (Morning Glory) is one of the most popular summer blooming flowers in Japan. Today, it has hundreds of varieties. Often used as potted plant, can be found in many, many places, even on the sidewalks, in front of homes or shops.

Photographed here is a plant displayed at the Asagao Ichi (Morning Glory Fair) at Iriya Kishimojin temple, in Taito-ku, Tokyo.
