Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Asakusa Bell of Time

Fri, September 20, 2019, by Muza-chan
During the Edo Period the time was announced by the chime of several official bells known as toki no kane 「時の鐘」, "Bells of Time".

Photographed here is the Bell of Time in Asakusa, located near the Senso-ji temple. The bell is 2.12 meters tall and 1.52 meters diameter, and during the medieval era it was heard as far as Sumida, Fukagawa or Ueno ( where there is another toki no kane, at the Kan’ei-ji temple).
