August 29, the Yakiniku Day!

Many days are dedicated in Japan to various things because of an old from of entertainment related to a particularity of the Japanese language: many words are homographs, so they can be read with different meanings and pronunciations.

One of these games is Goroawase, a numerical wordplay. For example, today's date, written in Japanese 8月29, can be (roughly) read as ya-(tsu)ki-ni-ku (8 = ya, 月 = tsuki, 2 = ni, 9 = ku), which led the All Japan Yakiniku Association to declare it as the Yakiniku Day!
