Boat on the Kurashiki Bikan canal

During the Edo Period, the canal running through the Bikan Area in Kurashiki was filled with cargo boats carrying rice brought to the Kurashiki storehouses from the surrounding provinces.

Today, the perfectly preserved Kurashiki storehouses were converted to shops, restaurants and museums, and you can still take a boat similar to the ones used during the Edo Period...
