Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Chiran Saigo Keichiro garden

Fri, August 23, 2019, by Muza-chan
One of the 7 gardens in the Chiran Samurai Residence complex, the Saigo Keichiro garden, combines several types of clipped plants, known in Japanese as karikomi.

The karikomi in the front are made by trimmed azaleas, while the one in the back, made of tall bushes, was designed to create an image that simulates a far away mountain, a technique called yamakarikomi, inspired by the shakkei (borrowed scenery) technique.
