Chokozan Myohonji Soshi-do

Ten minutes walk from the Kamakura Station, in a beautiful remote area surrounded by greenery, stands the Chokozan Myohonji Temple, one of the most tranquil temples from Kamakura.

This is one of the oldest Nichiren temples, established in 1260. The building in this photo, Soshi-do (Founding Priest's Hall), houses a famous statue of Priest Nichiren, part of a series of 3 statues sculpted from the same woodblock.
