Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Decorative civil engineering, Gas storage tanks

Sat, February 1, 2014, by Muza-chan
A principle frequently applied by the Japanese to ordinary life situations is to combine utility with aesthetics. Here it is, applied to the otherwise unaesthetic gas storage tank spheres: in Japan, many such containers are decorated with drawings varying from smiley faces to touristic objectives...

These gas tanks from Marugame, in the Kagawa Prefecture, are featuring a drawing of the nearby Marugame Castle and Seto Ohashi bridge (which connects the Shikoku and Honshu islands).

I'm thinking to start a photo collection with such artistic pieces of civil engineering work...
