The First Tsukudani Shop

Ever since the Edo period, on the Tsukudajima island (today's Tsukishima), the area nearby the Sumiyoshi Shrine was famous for the shops selling tsukudani, a type of food invented here: small pieces of meat, fish, shrimp, seaweeds and even... grasshoppers, prepared with soy sauce and mirin. Tsukudani is usually sold as topping for rice.

This place always impresses me, it feels like a living museum... And, amazingly enough, the first shop of tsukudani survived until today:
