One of the earliest Buddhist temples in Japan, established more than 1400 years ago, Hokan-ji was destroyed and rebuilt several times. Today, the only surviving construction is the temple's pagoda, know today as the Yasaka pagoda, last time rebuilt in 1440 by shogun Ashikaga Yoshinori.
It's an astonishing beautiful structure, one of the landmarks of Kyoto. You can see it while strolling through
