The Narita-san Shinshō-ji Temple from Narita is one of the most famous temples in the Kantō region and features a great collection of beautiful temple buildings, one of the richest I have seen. Some of these buildings are about 300 years old and declared National Important Cultural Properties, but new constructions are also enriching the area, like this
tahōtō style pagoda built in 1984, the Great Pagoda of Peace (messages for peace from several world leaders were placed in a time capsule under the ground of the pagoda).
It's an amazing construction, 58 meters tall (the top golden spire has an astonishing height of 18 meters - about the same height as a six story building). Actually, if you visited Tokyo via Narita Airport, you may have seen it - it is so big that it is visible from the trains coming from Narita Airport to Tokyo (on the right side if you're in a Keisei train and on the left side if you're in a JR train).
