Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Hakodate, the story of a name

Fri, March 22, 2019, by Muza-chan
550 years ago, on the place of today's Hakodate was an Ainu fishing village named Usukeshi. Here, a man named Kono Kaganokami Masamichi built a feudal mansion which was shaped like a box. That building gave the name of today's city, hako-date meaning "box mansion".
