Hikone Castle

Mon, April 11, 2016, by Muza-chan
Strategically built on the shores of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, and easily accessible from three important cities, Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya, the Hikone castle was one of the most important castles in the Japanese history, although it was built during peace time, after the battle of Sekigahara.

Today, 400 years after its construction, the Hikone castle is among the best preserved original castles din Japan. The white plaster on the walls, the roof and some golden ornaments were repaired during the last renovations works, completed 20 years ago.
