Hiroshima Shukkei-en Garden

The Hiroshima Shukkei-en garden was built in 1620 by a famous garden designer and master of the tea ceremony named Ueda Soko, for the daimyo of the Hiroshima han, Asano Nagakira.

What we see today is a reconstruction from 1951, after the garden was destroyed by the atomic bomb that exploded less than 1.5 kilometers away. However, the original design was preserved, and Shukkei-en is among the most beautiful gardens in Japan.
