Japanese arts, Bonseki dry tray landscapes

About Bonseki, the art of creating miniature landscapes by using grains of sand and little pebbles, it is said that what counts is not the result but the state of mind that comes from working on it.

Somehow similar to Zen gardens creation and to Ikebana, Bonseki is an art interwoven with philosophy, painstaking work to create fleeting masterpieces. And although they say that the result is not essential, the scenes created are astounding, like the one photographed here, inspired by the landscape of the Shikotsu-Toya National Park.
