One of my favorite things to do when I visit the tenshu of an original Japanese castle is to climb the wooden stairs... Extremely steep, narrow and with the steps placed far apart, they are part of the unique experience offered by the castle...

In order to help the tourists, some castles installed bamboo handrails... but from the castles visited until now, the most interesting was the solution from the Maruoka castle: the stairs have been provided with knotted thick ropes hanging from the upper floor...
