Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Japanese Christmas Food, KFC

Fri, December 21, 2012, by Muza-chan
Every Christian country has a traditional menu for Christmas, but in Japan, because the Christmas celebrations are imported, the Christmas menu was... reinvented. Actually, it is not a full menu but 2 types of dishes, very popular during the Christmas celebrations... The first, with a tradition that started in 1910, is the Christmas cake, sold for the first time at the Fugiya stores.

The other appeared in 1974, following the huge success of a KFC marketing campaign that presented Colonel Sanders dressed as... Santa. It is said that everything started after a foreigner declared that he ate chicken for Christmas, because he couldn't find turkey... And so appeared the tradition to eat fast food fried chicken on Christmas Eve. In 2005, a survey indicated that 1 of 3 Japanese adults were following this new tradition...
