Japanese New Year traditions, Hatsuyume, the first dream of the year

I mentioned yesterday the Japanese New Year tradition of hatsuyume, the first dream of the year, according to which the content of the first dream can indicate if the year would be beneficial or not.

The most auspicious dreams are considered those including the symbols represented by these 3 traditional Nagoya clay dolls: the Mount Fuji, because is symbolizes immortality, a hawk (taka in Japanese) because the bird flying at a high altitude symbolizes a higher goal, and something a bit surprising, an eggplant (nasu in Japanese), because nasu sounds the same as the word for "accomplish" or "fulfill".
