Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

100 Japanese Soundscapes, Kawagoe Toki-no-Kane travel tip

Sat, July 13, 2013, by Muza-chan
For me, visiting Japan is an all-sense experience, including smells and sounds...
Of course, there are many landscapes to delight your eyes and many great-smelling dishes... but that's not all. In 1996, the Ministry of the Environment compiled an interesting list of "100 Japanese Soundscapes". The list includes an amazing variety of pleasant sounds to experience in Japan, from bird songs to waterfalls and from festival music to famous bells.

One of these bells is located in Kawagoe, Saitama: the Toki-no-Kane ("Bell of Time"), in today's photo, can be heard recorded here.

Travel tip: Although it is called the Bell of Time, Toki-no-Kane only rings 4 times a day. To enjoy it, you should be there at 6AM, at noon, at 3PM or at 6PM...
