The well known complex which includes the golden pavilion and the surrounding garden from Kinkaku-ji, Kyoto was designed to symbolically represent the paradise of Amida Buddha, so each element has its on deep spiritual meaning...

An interesting example are the 4 stones creating a line in front of the golden pavilion. They are known as Yodomari-ishi and are symbolizing... a sailboat, anchored near the pavilion before sailing towards the Isle of Eternal Life...
