Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Japanese superlatives, the Tallest Pagoda in Japan

Tue, April 9, 2013, by Muza-chan
Even if Kyoto is today a modern city, it doesn't have tall buildings, the tallest structure here is the 131 meters Kyoto Tower, while the tallest building is the 100 meters Nidec Corporation Head Office Building.

But since 1200 years ago (more precisely, since the year 826) here is located the tallest pagoda from Japan. With a height of 57 meters, the pagoda from Tō-ji is the tallest pagoda and at the same time the tallest wooden tower from Japan. The pagoda we admire today was rebuilt during the Edo period, by the order of the shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu, and its graceful shape can be admired from many places in Kyoto...
