In Japan, the Buddhist temple bells are installed either inside a dedicated construction (shōrō "bell tower"), or on the higher floor of the temple gate (usually a romon gate).

A less common but very elegant architecture, designed about 300 years ago, is this combination between a bell tower and a gate, found in Amanohashidate, at the Chion-ji Temple: the lower part, coated with white plaster, is a Koukamon gate (Ryugu-zukuri style), while the upper part is housing the bell...
