Most of the reconstructed Japanese castles (those rebuilt during the second part of the 20th century) were built of concrete, with modern technologies, preserving only the external appearance. But more recently, some reconstruction projects were made by using the old, original methods. Of course, the process is a lot slower and more expensive, but the result is incomparable...

One of the newly rebuilt buildings is the Honmaru Goten Palace, located inside the Kumamoto Castle, a palace originally built in 1610 and destroyed 267 years later, during the Satsuma Rebellion. The most important part of the palace was reconstructed in 2008 by using original materials and methods, offering today an excellent glimpse of its former glory...
