Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Japanese Traditional Architecture, the Shirasu lighthouse

Fri, December 5, 2014, by Muza-chan
Before the first modern, Western-style lighthouses were built in Japan by Richard Henry Brunton at the end of the 19th century, the Japanese lighthouses were constructed with a Japanese specific architecture, reminding of a castle tower or a Buddhist temple bell tower.

The lighthouse photographed here, 14.5 meters tall was built in 1873 in the old style and was preserved inside the Kokura Castle park.
