Today, I would like to share with you the Koraimon type, often used at Japanese castles, temples and daimyo residences. The gate from today's photo is photographed at the Hakone Checkpoint.
The complex structure of the Koraimon was an evolution from a simple gate with gabled roof, conceived to offer improved resistance in case of attacks. The two roofs protecting the sides are elements specific to this style, designed to protect the pillars against the weather.
