Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Japanese traditional house, Sodegaki

Sat, January 10, 2015, by Muza-chan
In many Japanese tea gardens and traditional houses, you will see a small fence made of bamboo and woven grass, with a round corner on top. It is called Sodegaki, which means "sleeve fence", and it is named like this because it has the same proportions as a kimono sleeve...

Usually, they mark the entrance to the small garden where the tea house is located, like in this photo taken in Tondabayashi Jinaimachi, Osaka.
