Kanazawa Castle reconstruction project

The complex of buildings inside the Kanazawa Castle Park is one of the largest wooden construction projects initiated in Japan during the last century. The project was started 18 years ago, aiming to reconstruct the Kanazawa Castle by using only traditional methods and techniques.

Thus, the walls and the buildings will look exactly as they used to look during the Edo period. The construction will be also durable, since the earthen walls will be covered with plaster and tiles (see namako walls) and the roof will be made of lead mixed with copper, a material known to have been used in the Edo Castle...
