Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Kanazawa Higashi chaya district

Thu, December 3, 2015, by Muza-chan
If you would like to catch a glimpse of how a geisha district looked like 150 years ago, one of the best places to visit is Kanazawa. The main street of the Higashi Chaya District was designated as one of Japan's Cultural Assets and its historical buildings are a great example of conservation and preservation.

The street is lined by old buildings, without any visible poles or wires, and you can also visit the interior of some of the old chaya buildings, now converted to museums, shops or restaurants.
