Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Kannon from Ofuna, Travel Tip

Tue, June 7, 2011, by Muza-chan
I wrote before about the great Kannon statue from Ōfuna. Representing the White-Robed Kannon (Byakue Kannon), the statue was built over a span of 32 years and it made a huge impression on me, especially because of its very delicate features, amazing for such a big statue (25 meters tall and weighting over 1900 tons, the Ōfuna Kannon is much larger than the famous Daibutsu from Kamakura).

Travel Tip: Walk on the path surrounding the statue and on the back you will find the entrance to a small temple hall, located right inside the statue. You'll also find there a few museum photos documenting the construction of this amazing statue.
