Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Kawagoe Kurazukuri street

Mon, March 4, 2019, by Muza-chan
The fire resistant houses of Kawagoe (known as kurazukuri) were built more than 125 years ago after a devastating fire destroyed a third of the city. Made of multi-layered plaster with fireproof windows and doors, they were designed to completely isolate and protect the interior.

Since they are perfectly preserved, they are now a huge tourist attraction, and Kawagoe is listed on the Top 100 Historical Sites of Beautiful Japan.
