Kintai-kyo, one of Japan's finest bridges

The third bridge on the list of "Japan's finest three bridges" is Kintai-kyo, a spectacular wooden arched bridge in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi. Last time Kintai-kyo was rebuilt 63 years ago by using the original design and with a technology similar to the one used during the Edo period, with metal nails, made form the same iron used to made the Japanese swords.

In the medieval times, only the samurai were allowed to cross it, and they were also paying a tax. This custom was preserved until today, the bridge is accessible for a small fee, and of course, it is pedestrian-only...
