Kochi Castle main keep

Built by the lord Yamanouchi Kazutoyo between 1601 and 1611 in a swampy area, on a difficult terrain, the Kōchi castle resisted to all natural disasters, but was destroyed by a fire in 1727. Rebuilt in 1749, it survived intact until today, being the only castle in Japan with all the original honmaru buildings.
