Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Kyoto Shoren-in guesthouse

Tue, August 1, 2017, by Muza-chan
One of the spectacular interiors at the Shoren-in temple in Kyoto is the guesthouse, Kacho-den. The paintings on the upper part of the walls are representing the Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry (Sanjūrokkasen), a group of ancient poets selected by Fujiwara no Kintō as great examples of Japanese poetic ability. The paintings on the fusuma are representing lotus flowers and were made by a contemporary artist from Kyoto, Kimura Hideki.
