Meimei-an tea house

Meimei-an was built more than 200 years ago by Matsudaira Harusato, the 7th lord of the Matsue domain and the founder of a tea ceremony style called Fumai-ryu after the name of a tea master, Fumai.

The tea house remained in it s original form until today, but it was relocated several times. Initially it was at the residence of a retainer in Matsue, but after a while it was moved on today's location. Later it was moved again in Edo, in Harajuku. Moved again to Yotsuya, the small tea house returned to Matsue after 149 years, and after another 32 years was again moved to the location where we see it today.
