Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Mikoshi parade

Sat, July 30, 2016, by Muza-chan
Many Shinto festivals are featuring parades, in which the enshrined kami ("gods") are walked around the neighborhood in a portable shrine called mikoshi.

This beautiful tradition is believed to originate 1200 years ago, when the kami of Usa Hachiman Shrine in Kyushu was brought to the capital in a palanquin normally used by the emperor.
