The Minami-za theater represents the center of kabuki in Kyoto, being established only 23 years after the first kabuki dances performed by Izumo no Okuni. The today's building, erected in 1929 next to the Shijo-ohashi bridge, is declared a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
