It is said that during the construction of the Nagoya castle, the famed warlord Kato Kiyomasa, who was also one of the best castle architects of the medieval period of Japan, in order to protect the secret of his construction techniques, erected tall bamboo fences around the construction site.

He was also known for strictly controlling the workers, making them work both fast and well. The legend says that while the giant foundation stones were hauled, he was sitting on top of them, with a fan in his hand, shouting at workers and making them sing the cadence...
