Nakasu, the island of fun

Four hundred years ago, while building the Fukuoka castle, Kuroda Nagamasa, the daimyo of Fukuoka, created a place of entertainment on an island located between two rivers that received the name Nakasu, meaning "island in the middle".

Today, the Nakasu island is the best known nightlife entertainment district in western Japan. On an area of only 1.5 by 0.25 kilometers, there are over 2000 restaurants, bars, and clubs (including adult-entertainment establishments), all enchantingly illuminated at nighttime by traditional chochin lanterns and thousands of billboards.
