Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Night scene at Takeshiba Pier

Mon, April 25, 2016, by Muza-chan
Takeshiba Pier is one of the main Tokyo Bay harbors, the starting point for ferries connecting Tokyo to Izu and Ogasawara islands. Takeshiba Pier is also a historically significant spot, because it is the place where landed in April 18, 1845, the first American ship to arrive in Japan, Manhattan, under the command of captain Mercator Cooper.

Manhattan was bringing home a group of Japanese sailors rescued from the sea. Today, a ship mast, beautifully illuminated by night, stands as monument to commemorate this event.
