Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Odaiba Tokyo Drift venue

Mon, August 8, 2011, by Muza-chan
Started in Japan during the 1970s, the professional drifting competitions have become, in recent years, increasingly popular in the western world. And because of several video games and a Hollywood movie, now almost everybody knows what drifting is...

The "father" of the drifting was Kunimitsu Takahashi, who created the drifting techniques while competing in the All Japan Touring Car Championship races. Today, there are several professional drifting competitions all over the world, but the top competitions are still held in Japan, where a drifting Grand Prix (D1GP) takes place periodically on several cities. One of the most famous venues is this parking lot, the Aomi Parking from Odaiba, where the Odaiba Tokyo Drift is held annually.

If you want to have a closer look, here's a series of YouTube videos which will give you a glimpse of this Japanese born motorsport: 2010 D1GP Tokyo Drift in Odaiba.
Of course, the circuit is not permanent and, on a normal day, the location is packed with regular cars:
