Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Odawara Castle

Wed, April 26, 2017, by Muza-chan
The main tower (tenshu) of the Odawara castle was rebuilt in 1960, on the same place as the original, to celebrate 20 years since Odawara was proclaimed city. As it was the custom during those years, the castles were rebuilt of concrete, only the exterior maintaining the original look.

In Odawara, the original design of the castle was further changed and the top floor was made into an observatory, to allow tourists to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. Nevertheless, the castle looks beautiful, and the surrounding landscape is lovely indeed. By Shinkansen, Odawara is just a short trip from Tokyo (about 35 minutes with a Kodama), so if you're visiting Tokyo you may consider a short trip to see it.
