Today, the Momotaro legend is among the best known traditional Japanese stories, its characters being featured in manga, anime, movies, games, and more recently even in big name commercials.

It is believed that the story of Momotaro has its roots in Okayama, and due to this association it is represented on the city's manhole covers. Here's one such colorful manhole cover, representing Momotaro and his companions, the dog, the monkey and the pheasant.
