Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Old Japanese stories, the origin of Sake

Thu, April 3, 2014, by Muza-chan
The first historical recording of sake was in the legend of Kojiki, the oldest Japanese chronicle. It is said that once there was an evil dragon, with 8 heads, who year after year was attacking a village, each time devouring a girl. But Susanoo, the Shinto god of sea and storms, found an ingenious solution to stop the dragon: he asked the villagers to prepare sake, then he filled 8 cups with sake and waited for the dragon. When the dragon arrived, he drunk from the cups and fell asleep... Susanoo cut him with the sword... and finally he married the girl... (^_^)
