Old samurai house

After the Meiji Restoration, when the samurai cast and the clans were abolished, many residences in the samurai district of today's Kanazawa were sold, most of them being bought by rich merchants.

The Nomura family was during the Edo period one the most important retainers of the Maeda clan, the rulers of the Kaga Domain. After the samurai cast disappeared, their residence was reduced to a small part of the original property, but the house survived until today, being restored in 1941. Today, the old Nomura residence is opened for visitors, together with its small but very beautiful garden.
