The Owl Police Box

There are over 6000 police boxes - koban - in Japan and, as I wrote before, the architecture varies greatly, no two of them alike. Most koban buildings have a simple architecture, but there are also many with very interesting designs... and some of them are real traditional architectural jewels.

Others have become modern architectural landmarks, like this koban near Ikebukuro Station, looking like the head of an owl ... hence the name Fukurou Koban (Owl Police Box):
