It is common knowledge that the price of land in Japan is extremely high, but have you ever wondered how much can the price go up? The most expensive land parcel in Tokyo goes to the astronomical price tag of 30 million yen - that's over 300 thousand US Dollar - per square meter!
The record is held by the land occupied by the building in this photo, Meidi-ya, in Ginza.

The Meidi-ya company, specialized in high-end groceries, was established in 1885, at the beginning of the Meiji Period. The price of land started to rise after the Shimbashi Station opened not far from here and a large number of stores specialized in Western merchandise started to appear...
