Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Popular Japanese food, Kushikatsu

Thu, October 6, 2016, by Muza-chan
Around the years 1925-1930, two similar foods based on skewered meat appeared in Japan, one in Tokyo and one in Osaka. In Tokyo was the yakitori grilled skewered chicken, and in Osaka was kushikatsu (or kushiage) - skewered deep-fried meat, dipped in egg, flour, and panko breadcrumbs.

It is known that the first specialized restaurant appeared in Osaka in Shinsekai, and the district is still famous for its kushikatsu restaurants.
